Centrelink

I never really understood what the big fuss over centrelink was. Sure the people that work their may be horrible but I honestly thought everyone was over reacting about how crap the service was. NO. EVERYONE IS COMPLETELY CORRECT…

Yesterday I had to make my first ‘proper’ journey to centrelink- I’d been in there a few days before to pick up some forms and that didn’t involve people at all. I had all the documents ready at my disposal and allocated a good 2 hours before I had to start work to have everything done. After I had dealt with the receptionist I was in high spirits being told that I should be looked after in about 30 minutes. 1 hour and 15 minutes later my name was called and that is when I found out the true horrors of centrelink.

As I sat down in the booth and pulled my documents out from my bag I looked up to see two emotionaly blank eyes staring at me. Well I was prepared for the bad service so I put on a smile and begin stating that I wanted to claim a health care card. Obviously my voice was taxing on this woman’s health as she let out a pained sigh.
“Do you have the form”
I thought it would be best not to explain to her that I don’t normally come to centrelink to chat to the employees.

Now I think the reason why going to centrelink is terrible is because the staff must be so used to high school drop outs that they immediately assume that you are one of them. When I had all my papers clearly displayed the woman was shocked, actually shocked. This wasn’t how it is supposed to be. I’m supposed to be covered in dirt expecting you to hand me money. Was she pleased with this though, no. She decided it would be appropriate to try and find something wrong with my application. After that failed she insisted that I needed more ID. Hmm, my passport, drivers licence and bank statements were just insufficient.
“Well do you have your medicare card”
“Not on me, no”
“Hmm, well I guess we have enough ID”

What the fuck would a medicare card prove that a passport with my picture can’t? I was allowed to leave after dealing with this woman for 10 minutes. Looking forward to my next one…

Note: The slug of monsters inc is called ros, this woman was also called ros. She spoke, looked and smelled slightly like this slug.
